The 115 emergency center received a call from the family of pregnant woman B (40 years old) on January 21. Through the call, B's family said that the pregnant woman had abdominal pain, signs of water breaking, and was traveling from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City by car. When arriving at Phuoc Khanh ferry, B had given birth.
The 115 operator reassured the family, located the car, and dispatched the nearest ambulance to the scene. Recognizing that this was a premature birth, with both mother and baby at high risk, the operator made a video call to instruct the family on first aid measures.
After the connection, Ms. B's condition was assessed as alert, but the baby was cyanotic and not crying. Under guidance, the family stimulated the baby to cry and performed steps to keep the baby warm and clean the nose and mouth right in the car.
However, after 10 minutes, the baby continued to show signs of not crying or breathing, so the family was instructed to continue performing CPR on the baby and monitor until the emergency team arrived.
After 15 minutes, the emergency team from Nha Be District Hospital arrived at the scene, noted that the baby was purple and crying when stimulated. The team quickly performed neonatal resuscitation, clamped and cut the umbilical cord... and transferred the baby to Tu Du Hospital.
According to information from Tu Du Hospital, the 28-week-old baby is currently on a ventilator due to postnatal respiratory distress syndrome and is receiving intensive care in the neonatal intensive care unit. The mother is recovering well and was discharged this afternoon, January 23.
