On February 14th, Binh Thuan General Hospital announced that it had performed emergency surgery, successfully saving a case of a penetrating chest wound and right atrium perforation.
Previously, late on February 13, patient T. (born 2000, residing in Ham Thuan commune) was brought to the emergency room in a state of weak breathing, rapid pulse, and deep drop in blood pressure. When admitted to the hospital, the patient fell into a critical condition and needed urgent treatment.

Immediately after receiving the patient, the team of doctors urgently examined, consulted and implemented intensive care. After about 30 minutes of temporarily stabilizing vital signs, the doctors decided to perform emergency surgery.
During the surgery, the transverse sternal wound causing heart damage was determined to have punctured the right atrium.
The team proceeded to handle the injury and stitch up the puncture. The surgery lasted nearly 2 hours in stressful conditions due to the risk of heavy bleeding and cardiac arrest complications at any time.

Doctors predict that this is likely an open wound due to stabbing. In similar cases of heart damage, the mortality rate can be up to 60-80% if not intervened promptly and with proper technique.
Thanks to the smooth coordination of the medical team and timely professional treatment, the patient was out of danger. By the morning of February 14, the patient was awake, able to breathe on his own and continued to be monitored post-operatively.
According to investigations, the incident occurred in former Ham Duc commune, now Ham Thuan commune. The police agency is clarifying related details.
