Quang Tri successfully treats large-sized pre-cancerous lesions of the rectum

Quang Tri - Patients with large pre-cancerous rectal lesions treated with endoscopic technique, after 2 years no recurrence recorded.

On September 4, Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital said that the unit had just conducted periodic check-ups for Mr. N.V.V. (born in 1956, residing in Nam Dong Ha ward, Quang Tri province), who was previously diagnosed with large precancerous lesions in the rectum and the current results are very positive.

2 years ago, Mr. V. came to Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital for examination due to prolonged bowel disorders, with symptoms such as cravings, frequent bowel movements and frequent feelings of incomplete bowel movements.

Through colorectal endoscopy, doctors discovered a pericarcinotic lesion in the lateral enlarged tumor (LST-G M), spreading over the rectal mucosa, about 9x15cm in size.

According to doctors, unlike tumors that develop mainly by height, LST lesions tend to spread horizontally on the surface of the mucous membrane. With large sizes, interventional endoscopy treatment requires both completely removing the lesions, limiting deep lesions and the risk of developing fibrotic scars causing rectum narrowing.

Instead of performing major surgery, the patient was performed by a team of doctors with endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) to remove the lesions.

Due to the large area of the mucous membrane after intervention, doctors simultaneously applied preventive measures to prevent the risk of rectal stenosis after surgery.

After treatment, the patient's symptoms of bowel disorders improved. Mr. V. continued to comply with the schedule of re-examination and periodic endoscopy check-ups as directed by the doctor.

At the most recent examination, after 2 years since the procedure was performed, the area with the previous injury remained stable, no signs of recurrence were recorded. The scar area after intervention was healed, the rectum was clear and no narrowness was recorded.

According to Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital, the results of monitoring this case show the role of specialized interventional endoscopy techniques in treating some complex lesions in the digestive tract. Besides removing lesions, appropriate treatment methods can contribute to preserving function and limiting complications for patients.

Doctors also advise people not to be subjective when prolonged abnormal changes in bowel habits appear.
