Hung Yen - A woman had to be hospitalized after mistakenly taking a pill with a blister pack intact, causing a foreign object to be stuck in her esophagus.

On August 5, according to Hung Yen Provincial General Hospital, the Department of Functional Detection just received a female patient for examination in a state of chest pain, difficulty swallowing and a feeling of stuck swallowing, painful swallowing after taking medicine.

Through examination and esophago-gastric endoscopy, doctors discovered a pill still intact in a film blister stuck in the esophagus. The sharp edges of the film blister were stuck in the esophagus lining, posing a risk of abrasions, bleeding, ulcers, and even perforation of the esophagus if not treated promptly.

Immediately after that, the functional exploration department team performed interventional endoscopy and successfully removed the foreign object, ensuring safety and minimizing damage to the patient. After the procedure, the patient stabilized, and symptoms of chest tightness and difficulty swallowing were clearly improved.

Doctors recommend that people carefully check the medicine before taking it, make sure the medicine has been completely removed from the blister, drink it with enough water and in the correct position. At the same time, do not take the medicine in a hurry or loss of concentration. If after drinking, signs such as neck pain, chest pain, swallowing pain, difficulty swallowing or feeling of foreign objects appear, it is necessary to go to a medical facility immediately for examination and timely treatment.
