Tet of Life - Journey of Revival
On the second and third days of the Lunar New Year 2025, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital successfully carried out an organ donation campaign from two brain-dead patients, helping to transplant a heart and two kidneys, giving three patients a new chance at life. The noble gesture of the donor's family has sown the seeds of life, opening up hope in the first days of the year. Behind each organ donation is the dedication and tireless efforts of the medical team.
Patient N.T.C (37 years old, Vinh Phuc) successfully received a heart transplant after 10 years of fighting cardiomyopathy. Thanks to the new heart, he has the opportunity to continue taking care of his family and contributing to the community. Patients V.T.P.L (20 years old, Phu Tho) and N.T.H (41 years old, Nghe An) - who have end-stage renal failure - also received kidney transplants, escaping the long and arduous days of dialysis.
While everyone was preparing to celebrate New Year's Eve, patient N.V.Q. (22 years old, Phu Tho) was hospitalized in serious condition: his left hand was amputated due to a homemade firecracker explosion, along with foreign objects under the skin of his chest and abdomen. This is heartbreaking evidence of the consequences of making and using homemade firecrackers. Doctors at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, regardless of Tet, provided timely emergency care to the patient.
Even during Tet, the Central Maternity Hospital still maintains continuous medical examination and treatment. On the morning of the 3rd day of Tet (January 31, 2025), Hospital Director Nguyen Duy Anh - chaired the first meeting of the year, ensuring health care for the people. On the 2nd day of Tet alone, the hospital received 277 inpatients, 167 examinations, 85 emergency cases, 44 hospitalizations and 33 births. Many pregnant women were given timely emergency care and overcame the crisis. The meeting was maintained throughout, demonstrating the hospital's commitment to ensuring safe and effective medical services, with 24/7 emergency care under any circumstances.
During Tet, when everyone gathers with their families, intensive care doctors are still diligently taking care of patients. They put aside their own joys to join their colleagues and patients in welcoming a new year with better expectations. Their devotion and silent sacrifice bring new faith and vitality to patients, creating a warm spring.
Also during the Tet holiday, the Department of Orthopedics and Spinal Neurology, Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, admitted a boy named B.A (10 years old in Hanoi) with many wounds on his body, including his temples, thighs, arms and legs. The wounds had obvious, serious teeth marks from being bitten by a dog. Immediately after examination, the doctors performed 9 stitches on the large open wounds and took care of the remaining wounds. The patient was attacked by a dog while going to celebrate Tet with his family.
Doctor Pham Van Tinh - Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases - said: The patient is closely monitored for 5-7 days to check for signs of infection (swelling, heat, redness, pain, pus). Although it is Tet holiday, for the patient's health, the hospital has mobilized staff from the Vaccination Department to inject anti-rabies serum, rabies vaccine, and tetanus vaccine immediately after the wounds are treated.
During Tet At Ty, the number of hospitalizations, traffic accidents... all decreased sharply.
During the 8-day Tet holiday (January 25 - February 1, 2025), medical facilities received 24,054 medical examination and emergency cases suspected of being related to traffic accidents, down 8.9% compared to the 2024 Giap Thin Tet holiday. The number of hospitalizations decreased by 11.1%, the number of deaths decreased by 28%. Currently, 5,073 people are still being treated.
Healthcare during Tet was ensured with 548,151 visits, emergency care, 194,457 hospitalizations and 19,262 surgeries, of which 3,275 were emergency cases due to accidents. Hospitals assisted in childbirth, welcoming 16,508 babies.
The number of accidents caused by firecrackers decreased by 22.8%, those related to homemade weapons and explosives decreased by 53.3%. There were 709 cases of digestive disorders, food poisoning, and alcohol/beer intoxication, with no deaths recorded.
Notably, no major outbreaks of infectious diseases or food poisoning cases have been reported. The Ministry of Health confirmed that there were no drug shortages or price increases during Tet.
