Success in cancer treatment in Vietnam is on par with international standards

The success rate of treatment of some types of cancer at Hospital K has reached the same level as in advanced countries.

Speaking at the rally to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Vietnam Doctors' Day (February 27, 1955 - February 27, 2025) at K Hospital on February 24, comrade Lai Xuan Mon - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee acknowledged the outstanding achievements of the medical team.

Prof. Dr. Le Van Quang, Director of K Hospital, said that in recent years, K Hospital has made changes in the scale of facilities, the medical staff has been supplemented in quantity, improved in quality, professional qualifications, and the quality of medical examination and treatment has been increasingly improved.

Currently, K Hospital has 3 modern, spacious facilities with a scale of 2,400 beds and more than 1,900 officers, civil servants and employees. The hospital examines and treats about 400,000 to 500,000 people per year.

The hospital focuses on applying and implementing scientific and technological advances, developing high techniques, creating a spearhead strength such as minimalist invasive interventions, notably 3D endoscopic surgery, Robot...

Regarding internal medicine, the Hospital always updates new treatment regimens, focusing on personalizing treatment according to the biological characteristics of tumor at the clinical level with targeted therapy and immunotherapy.

For example, patient Nguyen Thi Lien, with terminal cancer, determined to give birth, was treated by doctors at K Hospital for her mother, kept the fetus and gave birth successfully; or the case of Nguyen Thi Hoang Yen (83 years old) with chronic lymphatic disease, the disease is in stage III, with a poor prognosis but has been treated stably by hospital doctors for more than 20 years...

The hospital always focuses on promoting international cooperation, up to now, there have been 50 cancer facilities, units and organizations in 33 countries that have cooperated with hospitals in all areas of cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, training and research.

After listening to the report on the hospital's activities, comrade Lai Xuan Mon assigned the hospital the task of focusing on implementation in the coming time: First, unite and be creative, build a team of cadres with strong political will, high professional qualifications and exemplary leadership, while focusing on training successors.

Second, improve the quality of expertise to focus on treatment, scientific research and training, expand international cooperation, and promote the application of advanced technology.

Third, promote cancer prevention, promote information provision, raise people's awareness of risk factors prevention, encourage early screening to reduce the burden of disease and improve quality of life.

These efforts affirm K Hospital's position as a leading facility in cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment, contributing to raising Vietnam's position in the global cancer fight.
