On March 10, information from Can Tho Central General Hospital said that doctors of the Hospital's Trauma - Orthopedics Center had just successfully performed a hip replacement surgery on both sides in the same surgery using direct anterior approach (DAA) for a patient with necrosis of the femur head on both sides.
Thanks to the application of minimally invasive techniques, patients can practice walking after only 2 days, opening up many opportunities for early recovery for people with severe hip joint diseases.
Patient Duong H. P. (born in 1977, Can Tho City) was admitted to the hospital on February 28, 2026 in a state of prolonged hip joint pain for many years, especially increasing in the last 6 months, having to use painkillers regularly and encountering difficulty walking.

Through examination and imaging tests, doctors determined that the patient had necrosis of the femoral column on both sides. This is a dangerous disease of the hip joint due to reduced or loss of blood supply to the femoral column, leading to bone necrosis, prolonged pain and possibly causing joint collapse if not treated promptly. The patient is indicated for surgery.
The surgery was performed by BS.CKII. Duong Khai - Head of Joint Replacement and Oncology and Orthopedics Department, along with a team of doctors from the Trauma - Orthopedics Center of Can Tho Central General Hospital.

Doctors chose direct surgery in front – a minimally invasive surgical method in hip replacement. The surgery lasted about 4 hours, performing hip replacements on both sides in the same surgery.
After surgery, the patient recovered smoothly and by the 2nd day he was able to practice walking with a support frame and walk on his own without supporting equipment after 5 days.
According to the plan, the patient will be discharged from the hospital on March 11, 2026.
