Regarding the incident of a 13-month-old boy dying while being transferred from Tay Ninh General Hospital to Ho Chi Minh City, the hospital's Board of Directors held an official meeting to inform and admitted errors in the treatment process.
According to Dr. Phan Thanh Tam - Director of Tay Ninh General Hospital, patient N.V.B. was admitted to the hospital on the evening of August 9 with a high fever, vomiting, and was diagnosed with measles with severe pneumonia complications, digestive disorders, rashed skin and poor breastfeeding. After many days of treatment, on August 12, the child's condition became worse, respiratory failure, and acute atherosclerosis.
The doctor prescribed Adrenalin via a hospital infusion. However, during the implementation, the two nurses used the injection line incorrectly. "This was a mistake in the treatment process, but it was not an incorrect vaccination as reported on social networks," Mr. Tam affirmed.
On the morning of August 13, the child became more serious, had to use a ventilator and was transferred to Ho Chi Minh City Children's Hospital. On the way, the child suffered a cardiac arrest, and despite emergency care, he did not survive. The upper-level hospital confirmed that the patient died at 4:00 p.m. the same day.
Previously, some social media accounts said that the hospital was "injecting mixed drugs", causing outrage among the family and public. On August 15, the family went to the hospital to request clarification of the cause.
On the afternoon of August 17, leaders of Tay Ninh General Hospital and the working delegation visited, expressed condolences and supported the treatment and aftercare costs for the children's families. The hospital also established a professional council to examine the death, evaluate the entire process, as well as a disciplinary council to review the responsibilities of the two nurses involved.
"The hospital will publicize the form of discipline, and at the same time create conditions for the two nurses to directly apologize to the family. We are committed to not covering up and will take appropriate transfer measures, not letting them continue to care for patients," said the hospital director.
On the management side, Dr. Huynh Tran Cong Hien - Deputy Director of Tay Ninh Department of Health said that he had requested the hospital to report quickly, establish a professional examination council, determine the cause of death and clearly inform the family, and handle it in accordance with legal regulations.
