On December 29, Duy Xuyen District Police, Quang Nam Province, announced that they had issued an emergency detention order for Nguyen Van Linh (born in 2000, residing in Phu Lac village, Duy Hoa commune, Duy Xuyen district) and Thai Nguyen Trieu (born in 2004, residing in Thu Bon Tay village, Duy Tan commune, Duy Xuyen district) for the crime of "Using computer networks, telecommunications networks, and electronic means to commit acts of property appropriation".

According to the investigation records, from mid-2024, Linh and Trieu had the intention of appropriating assets on the internet from Vietnamese people studying and working abroad, so they created Facebook and Tiktok social network accounts, claiming to be bank employees providing online support for account verification and increasing transaction limits.
To achieve their goal of appropriating their property, the two subjects asked the victim to provide bank account information and OTP code, then withdrew money from the victim's account. With this trick, both confessed to having appropriated more than 200 million VND.
