The Drug Crime Investigation Police Department (PC04) of Da Nang City Police informed that the unit has just presided over and closely coordinated with professional units under the Ministry of Public Security and the Noi Bai International Airport Customs - Customs Control Team (under the Customs Branch of Region 1), successfully dismantling a ring of illegal drug trafficking and transportation of large quantities from abroad to Vietnam.
The authorities caught Chau Vinh Phu (41 years old, residing in Hai Chau ward, Hai Chau district, Da Nang city) red-handed when he approached to receive a cargo box in the area of Ly Tu Trong street, Thach Thang ward, Hai Chau district. During the inspection, the police discovered that the container contained 5,000 ecstasy pills. It is worth mentioning that these drugs were extremely sophisticatedly disguised as weight loss functional food packages, in order to deceive the authorities during the process of transporting from abroad to Vietnam through Noi Bai airport border gate.
Previously, through the work of grasping the situation, PC04 of Da Nang Police discovered that Phu had many suspicious signs, and was an important link in the transnational drug trafficking ring. Recognizing this as a ring with a large scale and sophisticated operations, PC04 Da Nang has coordinated with the Department of Drug Crime Investigation (Ministry of Public Security), Noi Bai Customs and PC04 Hanoi City Police to establish a special project to fight and closely monitor.
It is known that Chau Vinh Phu is a subject who had a previous conviction for illegal drug trafficking and has just returned to his hometown after serving his prison sentence not long but continues to repeat the offense.
Currently, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department of Da Nang City Police has issued a decision to temporarily detain Chau Vinh Phu to continue investigating, clarifying the entire ring and related subjects, and strictly handling him according to the provisions of law.
