On December 18, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. N.T.M.C (39 years old, from Ninh Thuan) - owner of a grocery store on Kenh Tan Hoa Street, Tan Phu District (HCMC) - was still shocked when recalling the incident in which she was assaulted.
“At around 2:26 a.m. on December 16, while I was selling goods, two young men who looked drunk came into my grocery store to buy cigarettes and a Thai knife. I only sold them cigarettes and replied that I did not sell knives.
A moment later, a young man rushed in and hit me on the head. At 2:37 a.m. the same day, while I was sitting on the phone to report to the Phu Trung Ward Police, Tan Phu District about being assaulted by two strangers, suddenly a young man rushed in and beat me up, making me very scared. I screamed and cried, but because it was late at night, no one came to my rescue" - Ms. C recounted.
It is known that Ms. C's circumstances are difficult, she is a single mother who came to Ho Chi Minh City to start a business with her 2 young daughters. Currently, the 3 of them depend on each other and the grocery store to ensure their lives. This is the main source to raise 2 young children to study.
“After beating me, the young man also threatened to not let me open a grocery store here. They were tall, tattooed young men, while my family only had 3 women, a mother and her children. At that time, I was really scared,” said Ms. C.
The incident was reported by Ms. C to the Phu Trung Ward Police, Tan Phu District on the night of December 16. After 2 days of having to stop selling due to fear and trauma, today, Ms. C still had to try to reopen the shop to maintain the lives of her 3 children.
