Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Vuong Quoc Nam informed that the city has synchronously implemented many solutions to manage and effectively use public assets, especially offices, real estate and public investment capital, thereby contributing to saving the state budget and improving the efficiency of public resource use.

According to the report on the results of practicing thrift and combating waste in 2025 and the direction and tasks for 2026, the total existing office area of Can Tho city (after the merger of administrative units) is more than 46 million m2. In general, the agencies and units assigned to manage and use the headquarters have carried out well the maintenance, repair, and renovation work, ensuring suitability with working conditions, proper use and effective promotion. The arrangement and exploitation of headquarters has been gradually reviewed and rearranged in conjunction with the requirement of streamlining the apparatus to avoid waste.
In the field of construction investment, the city strictly implements the provisions of the Law on Public Investment, while effectively implementing the guiding documents of the Central and local governments. The work of establishing, allocating and organizing the implementation of the 2025 public investment plan has been strongly directed, contributing to improving the efficiency of state capital use, limiting the situation of scattered and ineffective investment.
Notably, the work of reviewing and settling investment capital for completed projects continues to be strengthened. In 2025, the total number of projects submitted for appraisal and approval of settlement is 171 dossiers, with a total proposed settlement value of VND 6,197 billion. Through the review, the total approved value is VND 6,174 billion, thereby saving the state budget VND 22.3 million.
For public assets such as houses and land for rent, Can Tho city has implemented Decree No. 108/2024/ND-CP and Decree No. 03/2025/ND-CP of the Government on rearrangement and handling of public assets such as houses and land, effective from January 1, 2025. The City People's Committee has directed the review of all housing and land funds that are public assets not used for residential purposes.
Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Vuong Quoc Nam said that the review results showed that houses belonging to public assets are being managed and leased according to regulations, including 647 apartments and households. Of which, there are 15 public housing units and 632 public property units being rented to households and individuals. In addition, there are 53 houses and land that are public assets not used for residential purposes.
From January 1, 2025 to September 30, 2025, the total amount of money paid to the state budget from state-owned house rental activities in the city will reach VND 8,142 million, contributing to increasing local budget revenue.
Regarding the work of reviewing and classifying public houses and land, the People's Committee of Can Tho City issued Official Letter No. 142/UBND-KT dated July 17, 2025.
According to Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Vuong Quoc Nam, thereby determining that there are 577 houses and land that are public assets not used for residential purposes, currently the agencies and units no longer need to use them. Of these, 112 surplus headquarters are managed by city-level departments, branches and sectors; 349 headquarters are managed by commune-level People's Committees; and 116 land plots are being leased or vacant and managed by commune-level People's Committees.
In the coming time, Can Tho city will continue to resolutely implement measures to manage, exploit and effectively use land resources, resolutely recover cases of land use for the wrong purpose and ineffectively; strengthen the management of public assets in accordance with standards and norms, associated with the arrangement and streamlining of the apparatus and administrative units, towards the most economical, sustainable and efficient use.
