Rivers are not only the source of life but also preserve the memories, culture and livelihoods of millions of Vietnamese people. However, in the cycle of rapid urban development and industrialization, many rivers are struggling to cope with increasingly serious pollution pressure.
The pollution situation in Can Tho River, Saigon River, Te Canal, Da Do River... is ringing the bell warning about the consequences of the environment if there are no timely and fundamental solutions.
From that worrying picture, the story of reviving the To Lich River in the capital Hanoi is considered a special case, even considered unimaginable.
However, new efforts and approaches in the process of renovating this river are opening up many expectations. The question is from the practice of To Lich River, what lessons can we draw to apply to the protection of the ecological environment on other rivers?
Based on that requirement, a seminar with the theme "Solving the problem of pollution on rivers from the To Lich River revival project" will be held to share practical solutions, analyze practical experiences and propose a long-term direction for the protection of the river environment.
The seminar aims to contribute to the synchronous application of legal regulations, while promoting fundamental solutions nationwide, to prevent pollution and sustainably protect the river ecosystem.
Here, environmental experts and scientists focus on pointing out the main causes of current river pollution.
Notably, untreated discharge from residential areas and production facilities, wastewater collection and treatment infrastructure is not synchronous, along with limited environmental protection awareness of a part of the people.
Looking at the efforts of Hanoi City in the process of reviving the To Lich River, experts will analyze and separate each specific solution to draw lessons that can be replicated. That is the combination of investment in technical infrastructure, application of wastewater treatment technology, enhancement of state management and community participation.
In addition, the seminar also proposed long-term solutions to effectively protect the water environment and river landscape. The solutions emphasized include investing in a synchronous wastewater collection and treatment system and increasing equipment and resources for supervision work; promoting propaganda and guidance for people; training and supplementing a team of professional human resources.
In particular, many opinions say that raising environmental protection awareness of people and communities living along rivers plays a key role.
Only when each individual joins hands, technical solutions and policies can be effective, aiming to restore clean flow to the rivers of Vietnam.
Attending the seminar "Solving the problem of pollution on rivers from the To Lich River revival project" will be attended by: Mr. Nguyen Khac Kinh, former Director of the Department of Environmental Impact Assessment and Assessment (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment); Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Thanh Ca (Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment).
