Many urban area projects in Ben Tre have been suspended for many years, seriously affecting people's lives. The provincial government has proposed to abolish a series of projects to remove obstacles and unlock development resources.

People hope to escape the suspended planning soon

According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, in the land area within the planning of the Dong Khoi new urban area project (Ben Tre city, Ben Tre province), the suspended planning situation is causing many serious consequences for people's lives.

Many households said that the project has lasted for many years without actual implementation, causing the urban appearance to slow down to be innovated, while directly affecting the rights of people living in the planning area.

"My family has a piece of land in the planning of the Dong Khoi new urban area project since the end of 2020. Up to now, the land is abandoned, unable to be built or transferred. Land value is decreasing. I can't build a house for my children to live alone" - Ms. Van (residing in Ben Tre City) said indignantly.

Similarly, Mr. Vo Thanh Nghiep (residing in Ben Tre City) said that his family has about 2,000m2 of land in the planning area. The prolonged planning not only wastes land resources but also causes many difficulties for people.

"We cannot build or repair houses, nor can we mortgage them to borrow money from banks, and our lives are severely affected" - Mr. Nghiep said.

According to the investigation of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, from 2019 to the end of 2022, in Ben Tre province, there are about 30 new urban area projects approved by the Provincial People's Council for investment proposal. However, up to now, no investor has been interested in practical implementation.

Proposal to remove a series of suspended projects

Faced with this situation, recently, Mr. Nguyen Truc Son - Permanent Vice Chairman of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee - on behalf of the Chairman of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee signed Document No. 3398 to the Ben Tre Provincial People's Council to approve the resolution to abolish the Resolution of Ben Tre Provincial People's Council on approving the proposal for investment projects for new urban areas in Ben Tre province.

According to this report, in order to attract investment in urban development in the province, the provincial People's Council has issued resolutions through the policy of proposing new urban investment projects in the area, accordingly, the People's Committee of Ben Tre province has directed the Department of Construction to coordinate with the concerned departments and branches to organize the local procedure and procedures to compile the competent investment policy to approve the investment policy.

However, during the implementation process, many difficulties and problems have arisen, so the project implementation progress has been prolonged, causing difficulties for people in the project area.

To promptly remove difficulties and obstacles, implementing the process of abolishing the resolution approving policies and proposals for investment projects in new urban areas in Ben Tre province is necessary and urgent.

Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee submitted to Ben Tre Provincial People's Council to abolish 20 resolutions on the relevance through the policy and plan to propose 20 urban area projects in the area. In particular, there is a proposal to abolish the entire Resolution 55/NQ-HDND dated 9.12.2020 of the People's Council of Ben Tre Province on approving the proposal of investment project to develop Dong Khoi New Urban Area (Ben Tre City, Ben Tre Province).
