Recorded on January 11, Nguyen Duy street along the north bank of Doi canal (passing through Phu Dinh and Chanh Hung wards, District 8 before) became clear when a series of houses along the canal were completely dismantled or are in the process of relocation.
At many locations where land has been handed over, the construction unit mobilized machinery and workers to deploy pile pressing and concrete embankment construction.



According to the Compensation and Site Clearance Board of District 8, the Doi Canal North bank renovation project has about 1,600 households subject to land recovery.
In Phu Dinh ward, the project affected 804 households. To date, 731 households have received compensation money, of which 587 households have handed over land.
Currently, there are 217 households that have not been handed over, mainly due to legal problems regarding land and houses, inheritance (155 cases) or disagreement on compensation prices and land origin (62 cases).



In Chanh Hung ward, the project recovered land from 791 households. Currently, 771 households have received money, and 719 households have handed over land.
The ward has 149 cases of resettlement registration, of which 89 households are arranged at the social housing project No. 2225 Pham The Hien street, 55 households at apartment building 481 Ba Dinh and 5 households at apartment building 35 Ho Hoc Lam.
It is expected that the entire compensation, support, and resettlement work of the Northern Doi canal bank renovation project will be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
The project to renovate the North bank of the Doi canal was started on August 13, 2025, with a total length of more than 4 km.
The project will build more than 4.3 km of embankment along the canal, combined with dredging part of the canal bed to improve flow, reduce pollution and improve environmental sanitation.
Along with that, the two roads Hoai Thanh and Nguyen Duy will be expanded to 20 m, contributing to improving regional traffic connections.
Some other important items are also being implemented such as: building the Nguyen Duy extended road (16 m wide) from alley 157 Hung Phu to Chu Y bridge; building Hiep An 2 bridge; forming a passenger wharf along the canal, combined with waterway traffic development. The project also completes drainage, greenery and urban lighting systems.
Expected to be completed in 2028, the North bank of Doi canal project is expected to significantly improve the living environment for thousands of households, reduce flooding and pollution, and create a spacious urban appearance for the southern area of Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition to the North bank, Ho Chi Minh City is also preparing to relocate more than 5,800 households in Chanh Hung and Binh Dong wards to implement the urban embellishment project in the South bank of the Doi canal.
According to the plan, the renovation of the South bank of the Doi canal is divided into 4 projects, implemented in the period 2026 - 2029.
The section from Rach Ong bridge to Mat bridge (Chanh Hung ward) is expected to clear 860 houses, with a total investment of more than 5,400 billion VND; the section from Mat bridge to Hiep An bridge needs to relocate 2,042 houses, with an investment of more than 10,000 billion VND.
In Binh Dong ward, the section from Hiep An bridge to Ba Tang bridge is expected to relocate 1,278 households, with a total capital of nearly 9,600 billion VND; the section from Ba Tang bridge to the south bank of the Doi canal needs to clear 1,627 households, with a total investment of more than 10,000 billion VND.
