On December 11, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) said that the construction of the two sections of Ring Road 2 will start from December 19.
Section 1 is more than 3.5 km long, from Phu Huu Bridge to Vo Nguyen Giap Avenue and Section 2 is nearly 2.5 km long, from Vo Nguyen Giap Avenue to Pham Van Dong.
The total investment of the two projects is nearly 13,900 billion VND, of which compensation and site clearance costs account for the majority; construction costs are only about 19%.
Both sections are being cleared by Ho Chi Minh City with a scale of 67 m.
On the recovered land, the city will build parallel roads on both sides (each road is 17 m wide, with a scale of 3 lanes) and intersections, the vacant land in between will be reserved for future expansion.

Section 1 has a total reclaimed area of over 47 hectares, affecting 888 cases, including 870 households and 18 organizations in Tang Nhon Phu, Phuoc Long, Thu Duc wards.
To date, the Traffic Department has received the premises of 250 cases. About 1.2 km of site at the beginning and end of the route is eligible for construction. In particular, the middle of the route is still not cleared synchronously, so it will be difficult to organize continuous construction.

Section 2 has a reclaimed area of 13.5 hectares, affecting 262 cases, including 253 households and 9 organizations (Thu Duc ward). There are currently 143 cases of land handover.
The Traffic Department said that some locations in section 2 have not yet received compensation or have not yet handed over land, making it possible for the project to only construct the sections with available land in 2025.
The two sections of Ring Road 2 are expected to be completed and put into operation in 2027. When completed, the route will strengthen connections with main traffic routes, seaport systems and contribute to traffic flow, reducing congestion in the inner city of Ho Chi Minh City.
The 64 km long Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 is currently 14 km unfinished, divided into 4 sections.
In addition to the two eastern sections that will start construction on December 19, section 3 from Pham Van Dong Street to Go Dua intersection, 2.7 km long, has been implemented since 2017 but is still unfinished.
Section 4, 5.3 km long in the south of the city, connecting from National Highway 1 to Nguyen Van Linh Street, has not yet been submitted to the competent authority for investment approval.
