Nearly 2 years since the dam failure at the tail of the Ta Phoi Copper extraction plant (ta Phoi Copper extraction plant), the lives of dozens of households are still affected, waiting for floodwaters every time there are storms. Although Ta Phoi - Vinacomin Dong Joint Stock Company has implemented measures to prevent water and toxic ore sludge from spilling into the environment.

According to statistics from the Lao Cai City Land Fund Development Center, by the end of 2023, the City People's Committee had issued a notice of land recovery, issued a decision approving the compensation plan for assets and crops and relocated 11 households in areas at high risk of landslides to new residences (expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2024).
However, by March 2025, many households in the resettlement area have not been able to move.

The family of Ms. Luu Thi Tao (less than 100m from the lake slope) said: "On rainy and windy days, some households here do not dare to sleep. Every house has lights and stays up all night to prevent landslides. If something happens, they call each other to run away."
Sharing about the reason why households do not have safe housing, according to Ms. Tao, is that there is no land to rebuild their houses.
Therefore, many households in the affected area, forced to relocate in Ta Phoi commune, are day by day hoping to be handed over resettlement land to move to stabilize their lives.

Mr. Bui Van Duc (ta Phoi commune, Lao Cai city) said: "The resettlement arrangement for households has been discussed for nearly 2 years. Therefore, we hope that local authorities need to implement it as soon as possible so that households in danger can move to safe places before the rainy and stormy season".
According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper at the end of March 2025, the site clearance work is being carried out more urgently than ever.
According to the People's Committee of Ta Phoi commune, the resettlement arrangement should have been completed a long time ago, but the households did not agree with the arranged location. After that, the locality continued to arrange a new location but the people still did not agree. It was not until the third time that the location was chosen that the people were satisfied with.

On March 29, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Chairman of Ta Phoi Commune People's Committee Le Truong Giang excitedly said: "After a long wait, households subject to resettlement due to the impact of the incident at Ta Phoi copper factory are about to be handed over land. This will help people move to a new, safer place. Currently, the units are carrying out the leveling work to hand over to the people before April 30".
