This is the information stated by the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor) in a report sent to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Office to respond to voters' petitions.
District 8 voters expressed concern about the progress of the North Bank of the Doi Canal project, which has dragged on for many years and is expected to have compensation prices applied by the end of this year.
Voters recommend that authorities quickly come up with a specific compensation plan to help people stabilize their lives soon and find a resettlement site suitable for the compensation value.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board, the city will allocate about 5,400 billion VND this year for compensation, site clearance and completion of procedures to start the project in the second quarter of 2025.
The project to dredge, improve the environment and build infrastructure on the North bank of the Doi Canal has recently been approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council to increase capital from over 4,900 billion VND to over 7,400 billion VND.
The additional capital is mainly for compensation and site clearance, increasing from 3,583 billion VND to more than 6,000 billion VND due to the application of the 2024 Land Law.
Currently, the People's Committee of District 8 has announced land reclamation and is conducting measurements, counting and collecting legal information from affected households. Of the total 1,571 households, 1,005 households were completely cleared and 566 households were partially cleared.
To meet resettlement needs, the People's Committee of District 8 has proposed the Department of Construction to propose the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to consider and approve the plan for the investor to advance capital to buy 315 apartments at the Hung Phat social housing project (Ward 6, District 8) and 242 apartments at the Resco apartment building (No. 481 Ben Ba Dinh Street, District 8).
The project to renovate the North bank of the Doi Canal will involve the construction of more than 4.3km of embankment, combined with dredging part of the canal bed and expanding two roads, Hoai Thanh and Nguyen Duy, along the bank with a width of 20m. The extended Nguyen Duy Street will also be newly built, 16m wide, extending from alley 157 Hung Phu to the Y-shaped bridge.
The project also includes building Hiep An 2 bridge, creating a passenger wharf along the canal, and adding a modern drainage, tree and lighting system.
This renovation is part of Ho Chi Minh City's long-term plan to clear houses on and along canals, thereby reducing environmental pollution and enhancing urban beauty.
According to the roadmap, the project will start construction in 2025 and be completed in 2028, marking a major step forward in the renovation of District 8 and neighboring areas.
