Ho Chi Minh City will reclaim land from 1,140 households to widen National Highway 13 through Thu Duc City to 60m, accommodating 10 lanes, of which 336 households will be cleared.

This is one of four important infrastructure projects that have just been approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council under the BOT (build - operate - transfer) form.

The project to upgrade and expand National Highway 13, the section passing through Thu Duc City, has a total length of 5.9km, stretching from Binh Trieu Bridge to the border of Binh Duong Province.

Currently, this route is 19 - 27m wide, after upgrading it will be expanded to 60m, accommodating 10 traffic lanes.

On the route, Ho Chi Minh City will build a 3.2km long overpass from Binh Trieu intersection to Binh Phuoc intersection, with a maximum design speed of 80km/h.

The road below has a parallel road system on both sides, each side has 3 lanes, with a maximum speed of 60km/h.

According to the compensation plan, the total number of households affected by the project is 1,140 households, of which 336 households were completely cleared, 804 households were partially cleared. Compensation and resettlement will be implemented before the project is constructed.

After the investment policy is approved, the project will enter the stage of preparing, appraising and approving the feasibility study report from the first quarter to the third quarter of 2025.

The site clearance work is expected to take place from the third quarter of 2025 to the third quarter of 2026. Construction will begin in the third quarter of 2026 and be completed in 2028.

The expansion of National Highway 13 will help connect Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong conveniently, while improving the transportation capacity of the eastern gateway area of Ho Chi Minh City.
