HCMC - The project to expand Ton That Thuyet Street and build a park along the Kenh Te bank has a total capital of more than VND 5,600 billion, reclaiming land from 598 households (461 households were cleared).

According to the plan, the project to renovate and expand Ton That Thuyet Street and a green park along the Kenh Te bank will be submitted by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for approval at the meeting scheduled to be held on November 14.

Ton That Thuyet Street (from Road No. 1 to Truong Dinh Hoi Street) is more than 3.4 km long and will be expanded from 7 m (2 lanes) to 27 m, accommodating 6 lanes.

The project also includes the construction of a new bridge across Nguyen Kieu Canal (27 m wide), the construction of a system of embankment protection on Kenh Te and Nguyen Kieu Canal banks, the arrangement of boat mooring stations to serve inland waterway traffic, and the construction of a new planned route No. 1 (185 m long, 28 m wide).

In addition, the project also builds a green park along the Kenh Te bank; renovate and expand Nguyen Kieu bridge to 25 m, accommodating 6 lanes...

According to calculations, the total investment of the project is VND 5,621 billion, of which compensation, site clearance and resettlement costs account for more than VND 4,100 billion (nearly 74% of total capital).

The project affects 598 households, including 461 households cleared and 137 households partially cleared.

Of which, in Khanh Hoi ward, there are about 28 households, Xom Chieu ward about 126 households (100 households cleared, 26 households partially cleared), and Vinh Hoi ward about 444 households (333 households cleared, 111 households partially cleared).

According to the plan, after the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council approved the investment policy, the project will be implemented in the period of 2026 - 2029.

From the first quarter to the fourth quarter of 2026: Implement local adjustments to the relevant 1/2000 zoning plan, complete appraisal and approval procedures for projects and construction drawing designs, and at the same time deploy compensation and site clearance work.

From the first quarter to the third quarter of 2027: Complete compensation, site clearance, select contractors and start construction.

From the fourth quarter of 2027 to the fourth quarter of 2028: Construction, completion, acceptance and putting the project into use.

This project was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in 2016, with a total initial capital of VND 737.5 billion. The cost of site clearance for separate projects is about 1,466 billion VND.

However, after many years of not being implemented, the total proposed investment is adjusted to increase to VND 5,621 billion.

Of which, construction and installation costs increased from VND 737.5 billion to VND 1,480 billion, while compensation and site clearance costs increased sharply from VND 1,466 billion to VND 4,141 billion.

The main reason is due to expanding the investment scope, adding green parks, new roads, and canals, while adjusting compensation prices and resettlement costs.

After completion, the expanded Ton That Thuyet route and a synchronous technical infrastructure system will enhance the traffic capacity of the central area, reduce congestion, solve drainage problems and connect smoothly with main roads such as Nguyen Khoi Street and Ben Van Don.

The project also contributes to beautifying the urban area of Kenh Te bank, creating a green landscape axis, increasing urban aesthetics and improving the living environment for people.
