Binh Quoi - Thanh Da Urban Area
Binh Quoi - Thanh Da urban area (Binh Thanh district) is located on a peninsula about 6.5 km from the center of Ho Chi Minh City. This project was first approved in 1992, but has not been implemented yet due to difficulties in investment capital and land clearance.
Currently, there are about 5,000 households with more than 16,600 people living in this peninsula area, facing many difficulties due to the long-standing "suspended" project.
Ho Chi Minh City has included the project in the list of typical projects competing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) and set a goal of completing the bidding process to select investors by April 2025.
In addition, Ho Chi Minh City is also organizing an international competition for planning and architectural ideas for the Binh Quoi - Thanh Da peninsula, with the requirement of reserving at least 200 hectares for green parks, creating a public space in harmony with the Saigon River landscape, serving people's lives in the future.
Rach Chiec Sports Complex
The Rach Chiec Sports Complex project in Thu Duc City has also been "suspended" since 1994.
With an initial planned area of 466 hectares, this complex was expected to be an Olympic-standard sports center. However, after many adjustments, the area is now only 212 hectares and the project is still just empty lots mixed with swamps.
In 2017, Ho Chi Minh City restarted the project to prepare for hosting the 31st SEA Games, but when the city withdrew from the hosting role, the project was once again stalled.
In December 2023, applying Resolution 98, Ho Chi Minh City included Rach Chiec Sports Complex in the list of cultural and sports projects invested in the form of public-private partnership (PPP), creating an opportunity to revive the project.
Of the 23 projects calling for investment, 16 are located in this complex. Some notable large projects include: A 50,000-seat stadium with an athletics track (VND 7,000 billion); a cycling track with an outdoor soccer field (VND 4,000 billion).
Binh Trieu Station
The Binh Trieu station project (Thu Duc City) has been "suspended" for 22 years, since its detailed planning at a scale of 1/2000 in 2002, with an area of more than 41 hectares.
According to the Prime Minister's decision in 2013, Binh Trieu station was identified as the northern technical passenger station of Ho Chi Minh City. In 2021, Binh Trieu station is planned to be the national railway passenger hub station in the Ho Chi Minh City area.
However, the project has not been implemented yet, causing many difficulties in the lives of more than 3,000 households with more than 15,000 people.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City is organizing the preparation of a project to adjust the master plan until 2040, with a vision to 2060, in which Binh Trieu station will be added as a passenger station for Metro lines 3, 6 and 8. This area will also be planned according to the urban development model with a public transport orientation (TOD).
After the General Planning Project is approved by the Prime Minister, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to develop a specialized transport project and study the investment plan for Binh Trieu station, creating conditions for the project to be restarted after many years of "sleeping".
