Alphonso Davies' contract with Bayern Munich is about to expire (June 2025). The Athletic revealed that since the beginning of this year, some details about the contract between the Canadian star and Real Madrid have been drafted. Davies is even expected to join Los Blancos this summer or the summer of 2025.
Davies is only 24 years old now and has a bright future, not to mention he is one of the best left-backs in the world right now. If the Canadian captain and Bayern do not renew before December 31, 2024, Davies will be free to negotiate with any team he wants from January 1, 2025.
In fact, Bayern have been planning to renew Alphonso Davies since the beginning of last year. However, the two main characters in this plan, former sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and former CEO Oliver Kahn, were both fired last May.
Earlier this year, Bayern had a clear intention about Davies's case. The 24-year-old star must either renew or be sold in the summer transfer window of 2024. Bayern's "ultimatum" was sent to Davies in March and the "Gray Tigers" asked their player to respond within 2 weeks. At that time, Bayern proposed a new salary, worth about 13 million Euros/year until 2029. However, Davies later refused.
In June, Davies' agent and Bayern's new sporting director - Max Eberl reached an agreement on the principles to extend the contract. In addition, new captain Vincent Kompany also expressed hope that Davies could continue to go with Bayern for a long time. However, the "Gray Tigers" will not do this at all costs because at the end of last season, Davies also lost form, joining in the gloomy atmosphere of a rare empty-handed season of the home team at Allianz Arena.
Among the teams interested in Alphonso Davies, Real Madrid is mentioned the most. Initially, Real showed a great determination to have the Bayern star. However, it has cooled somewhat when Los Blancos won the Champions League last season. Therefore, there was a time when Davies doubted the sincerity of the Royal team for him.
Since June until now, Real Madrid and Alphonso Davies have been said to have had contacts but none of them have reached specific results.
Barcelona are also interested in the Canadian star. However, the Blaugrana's constant problem is money, they do not know if it is enough to meet Davies' demands when the Dani Olmo deal is still a concern. Therefore, Barca is much weaker than Real in this deal.
Manchester United also expressed interest in Davies in the context that they are in great need of an excellent left-back to improve the squad when Luke Shaw is constantly injured. However, not as "impatient" as Barca, Man United is tightening spending to the maximum under the reign of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the INEOS group. If Davies' transfer fee was too high and his salary was sky-high, he certainly wouldn't be welcome at Old Trafford at the moment.
However, in the current chaotic context, staying at Bayern is not a bad choice for Davies. The Canadian star has been playing at the Allianz Arena for nearly 7 years and he is very popular in the dressing room. Not only that, Chairman Herbert Hainer also considers Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich as the three representatives of the "Gray Tigers" in the new era.
