The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has reduced the list of candidates for the Europa League Best Player award for the 2019-20 season to three, including Bruno Fernandes, Ever Banega and Romelu Lukaku.
Although Manchester United did not win the championship, Bruno was the top scorer of the tournament with 10 goals (including the number of goals he scored for Sporting Lisbon before moving to Man United). The Portuguese midfielder scored in the semi-final against Sevilla but it was not enough to help the Red Devils win a ticket to the final.
He also scored from the 11m mark in the quarter-final against Copenhagen. In the group stage, for Sporting, Bruno scored 5 goals.
The remaining 2 candidates appeared in the final, in which Banega was the inspiration for Sevilla's playing style, bringing the team to the championship. It was Sevilla's sixth win in the competition, and also a gift from Banega to the team before leaving for Al- Shabab in Saudi Arabia.
As for Lukaku, his efforts have been recognized by experts, with 6 goals scored, including a double in the final, even though his playing time was only half that of Bruno. Unfortunately, Inter could not win the championship because Sevilla scored 3 goals against them.
The remaining positions in the Top 10 include: 4 Luuk de Jong (Sevilla) - 64 points; 5 Jesus Navas (Sevilla) - 59 points; 6 Lucas Ocampos (Sevilla) - 39 points; 7 Kai Havertz (Leverkusen) - 17 points; 8 Diego Carlos (Sevilla) - 9 points; 9 Adama Traore (Wolves) - 8 points; 10 Jules Kounde (Se villa) - 7 points.
The winner's identity will be announced in the Europa League 2020-21 draw on October 2. Recent winners are Eden Hazard (2018-19), Antoine Griezmann (2017-18), Paul Pogba (2016-17).
