Unblocking green credit flows, promoting sustainable economic development

Hanoi - In order to clarify the role of green credit in green transformation and sustainable development, and at the same time discuss difficulties and solutions to promote green credit flows, Lao Dong Newspaper in coordination with the State Bank of Vietnam organized the Workshop "Unblocking green credit flows".

The workshop took place at 2:00 p.m. on April 25, 2025 at the headquarters of Lao Dong Newspaper (No. 6 Pham Van Bach, Cau Giay, Hanoi), with the participation of leaders of the State Bank of Vietnam, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, economic - financial experts, representatives of commercial banks, enterprises and financial institutions.

The workshop is part of the Green Transformation Day 2025 event series organized by Lao Dong Newspaper, officially launched with the theme "Green Transformation - Joining hands for a sustainable Vietnam" on March 28, 2025.

Completing the legal framework to promote green credit and digital transformation

According to the National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 approved in Decision No. 1658/QD-TTg dated October 1, 2021, the completion of policies and criteria for evaluating green credit needs to be promoted to create a sustainable financial market, encouraging businesses to apply ESG practices. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure effective mobilization of resources in society, thereby creating convenience for businesses and people.

Currently, the SBV has proactively oriented and requested credit institutions (CIs) to focus on sustainable development, implementing green banking and green credit in the Banking Industry Development Strategy, Project on restructuring the system of CIs associated with bad debt handling, Action Plan of the banking industry to implement the National Strategy on Green Growth (QD 1604/QD-NHNN dated 07-08/2018; QD 1408/QD-NHNN dated 26.07.2023), Instructions on implementing environmental risk management in credit granting activities of CIs...

Discussing some proposals to promote green credit flows to be highly effective

In addition to the contents related to the current difficulties and challenges of businesses in accessing green credit, the role of commercial banks, the Workshop will also discuss solutions to remove difficulties for green credit flows, synchronously develop a green financial ecosystem, support businesses in green transformation associated with the goal of sustainable development, net zero emissions. Experts will analyze existing problems to find solutions suitable to reality, ensuring feasibility when implementing.
