The Premier League title race has become a spending fever that could reach £1 billion before the first match of the 2025-2026 season begins. Clubs in the top 4 last season are renewing their squads at an unprecedented pace.
Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea are trying to reclaim the throne from defending champions Liverpool. And the spending of these clubs has been huge so far.
However, teams that are trying to close the gap, such as Newcastle and Aston Villa, along with downed giants such as Manchester United and Tottenham, are at risk of falling further behind.

Arsenal will reach £180 million when completing a £63.5 million deal for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres. They have previously added midfielder Martin Zubimendi (51 million pounds), winger Noni Madueke (48 million pounds), midfielder Christian Norgaard (10 million pounds) and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga (5 million pounds).
Meanwhile, Chelsea and Man City have spent a total of £260 million this summer on the likes of Joao Pedro (60 million pounds), Jamie Gittens (51.5 million pounds), Tijjani Reijnders (46.3 million pounds), Rayan Ait-Nouri (36.3 million pounds) and Rayan Cherki (34 million pounds).
However, no team has made a strong statement like Liverpool. The Kop have now become stronger by investing £185.5m in the squad of coach Arne Slot.

The "Red Brigade" is about to complete the signing of a £69 million contract with Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. They have previously broken the club's transfer record with a £100 million deal for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz (with a £16 million add-on fee).
Liverpool's total 2025 summer spending will increase to 254.5 million pounds with the deals of Milos Kerkez (40 million pounds), Jeremie Frimpong (29.5 million pounds) and Giorgi Mamardashvili (29 million pounds) completed.
As the candidates prepare to enter the pre-season with friendly matches this week, the Premier League championship race has been launched by finance departments at Anfield, Emirates, Stamford Bridge and Etihad.
After spending £175.9m on four signings (Nico Gonzalez, Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis) in January, City's total spending as of now in 2025 has reached £295.9m.
Clearly, the Citizens' leadership is determined to regain the top spot in the Premier League after Liverpool ended their streak of 4 consecutive championships.

But Liverpool have won the 2024-2025 championship with a gap of 10 points over Arsenal - the runner-up for the third consecutive season. So can Slot's team be reformed after spending big on new players this summer?
With Liverpool still interested in a £130 million contract for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who could become a serious target if Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Federico Chiesa leave Anfield before the September 1 transfer window, they will become too strong compared to the chasing group.
