Nottingham Forest confirmed that they have parted ways with coach Nuno Espirito Santo after only 3 rounds of the 2025-2026 Premier League season.
In the official announcement, Nottingham thanked the Portuguese strategist for his important contributions. Especially in the 2024-2025 season when he helped the team finish seventh in the Premier League and win a ticket to the European Cup for the first time in 30 years.
Nuno took over from Steve Cooper in December 2023, taking Nottingham out of the relegation zone before writing a historic season. However, a series of results that were not as expected at the beginning of this season forced Nottingham's board to make a decision to part ways.
Nottingham Forest will participate in the Europa League this season, replacing Crystal Palace - the team that was relegated to the UEFA Conference League due to regulations on ownership of multiple clubs.
However, despite having just signed a new 3-year contract in June and being the one to bring Nottingham back to the European arena, Nuno will no longer have the opportunity to accompany the team in this campaign.
Nuno's future has been questioned since the beginning of the season when he admitted he was not close to the owner Evangelos Marinakis. "Once there is smoke when there is fire, so I know how things go. But I'm here to do my job," the Portuguese said at the time.
After the international break, Nottingham Forest will have a difficult away trip to Arsenal on September 13.
