The pressure is mounting on Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim.
Following the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao, club sources stressed to ESPN that the Portuguese coach still has full support from the board.
But that has not stopped the debate among fans about whether he is still the right person for this job.
A truly shocking Premier League campaign as Man United could finish in 17th place - just one more than the relegation zone. They also could not find salvation when they suffered a humiliating defeat to Tottenham at San Mames.
The only positive point of losing the Europa League final is that it will give Amorim more time on the training ground next season.
However, the big downside is that the budget for the summer squad reform will be significantly cut after the club missed out on a potential £100 million.
Amorim was the first to admit that the results under his management were not good enough. However, the main question is whether the assessment is fair or not.
Amorim had initially told the Red Devils that he wanted to take over in the summer. He was concerned that requiring players to adapt to a new tactical system in the middle of the season would cause problems. And in the end, he was proven right.
The Portuguese captain inherited a squad built for variations of his favorite 4-3-3 formation. Amorim also has to deal with injuries to key players such as Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo.
All of this has created a general sense that Amorim is trying to limit the damage and do his best to go further at the end of the season.
The 40-year-old strategist does not have many reasons to justify, but there are still positives. Since his appointment, Man United have beaten Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium and drawn at home.
They drew 2-2 with Liverpool at Anfield and beat Arsenal to 10 in the FA Cup at the Emirates. They were also the better team for a long time in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League.
Late goals against Rangers, Southampton, Leicester, Lyon and Bournemouth showed that fighting spirit was still in the team and the players supported the coach. Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot said so after the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.
"It's not my decision, but I think the manager is the right person. I didn't think there would be anyone better to take on the job and do that job.
I know it's hard to understand, it's hard to see. But I still think he is the right person to lead the club," said the Man United captain.
Amorim will not change his system, and history shows that is unnecessary. Most Premier League managers have played in a 4-3-3 formation, but Oliver Glasner has been effective at Crystal Palace.
Antonio Conte won the Premier League with a three-man defence during his time in charge of Chelsea in the 2016-17 season. That is possible if trained properly with the right players.
The biggest plus for Amorim is that he has done it before.
The 40-year-old took over a struggling Sporting CP side and turned them into domestic champions, winning three Primeira Liga titles.
He has made players like Viktor Gyokeres one of the most sought-after transfer targets in Europe.
Before leaving Portugal at the beginning of this season, Amorim had a big win over Pep Guardiola in the Champions League. And in 2023, Amorim's side dropped Mikel Arteta's side out of the Europa League.
Amorim's achievements in Portugal must be valuable. He had a difficult start at Old Trafford, but that was expected. However, are these just initial problems or are they evidence of deeper problems?
"I haven't done anything for the fans yet, so I need a little faith at the moment. Let's wait and see.
I'm always open. If the board and the fans find me unsuitable, I will leave tomorrow without compensation, but I will not resign," Amorim said after the defeat to Tottenham.
