Coach Shin Tae-yong was fired by the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) on January 6. The Korean coach has not returned to his home country but is still in Indonesia waiting to receive his contract compensation.
During this time, coach Shin Tae-yong participated in a horror comedy project called "Ghost Soccer: Bola Mati". He took on a cameo role, transforming into himself and giving instructions to a village soccer team.
Filming took place on January 19 at a mini soccer field in Subang, West Java, Indonesia. Shin Tae-yong was accompanied by interpreter Jeong Seok-seo and several colleagues.
As soon as he arrived, the former head coach of the Indonesian national team started practicing for the scene. The appearance of Mr. Shin Tae-yong attracted the attention of many locals. They asked for photos and autographs from the Korean coach.
The strategist expressed his nervousness about his first role. Although he is used to being in front of the camera from commercials and interviews, Shin Tae-yong still had many things to worry about when filming a movie.
"Coaching football, let alone being a head coach, is harder than filming in front of a camera. If you make a mistake in a movie, it can be repeated over and over again until everything is perfect. But in football, it's different, just one mistake can lead to disappointing results and there's no chance of correction," said Shin Tae-yong.
Talking about the reason for deciding to participate in the film, coach Shin Tae-yong said: "I have not had any special activities after leaving the Indonesian national team. Because this film focuses on football, the main content is related to the development of youth football in Indonesia, so I came to contribute my efforts.
I hope this film will inspire people to love football and support the development of youth football in the archipelago country.
Besides, Indonesian fans still have affection for me so I feel I need to do something to repay them. Filming a movie like this also gives me a new experience after a period of focusing completely on sports."
Fajar Nugra - one of the main actors of the film - felt that coach Shin Tae-yong was a humble and humorous person. Being in the same frame with the Korean coach made Fajar Nugra feel very proud.
A representative of the film crew said: "Coincidentally, one of our colleagues was also present at the farewell press conference between Shin Tae-yong and the Indonesian team. That person told us this story and we decided to invite Coach Shin. This is a gift we want to give him before he returns to Korea." It is known that in addition to staying in Indonesia to wait for his contract compensation, Coach Shin Tae-yong also established the Football Academy and the STY Foundation in this country, so he has not returned to Korea yet.
