The homepage of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced that the "Best International Player of the Year 2020" award went to Korean striker Son Heung-min. This is an award honoring Asian male players who play for professional clubs outside the AFC. The award results are based on the number of votes of the singles on the AFC homepage.
In 2020, the striker currently playing for Tottenham showed impressive form when scoring 22 goals in all competitions. Son Heung-min led the vote when receiving a total of 25.03 points, followed by Iranian striker Mehdi taremi (FC Porto with 19.34 points). The remaining names in the Top 5 are Ali Adnan ( Iraq), Nikita Rukavytsya (Australia) and Sardar Azmoun (Iran).
In addition to this year's award, Son Heung-min has received the title of Best International Player of the Year voted by AFC four times (2015, 2017 and 2019). Also in 2020, the 28-year-old striker won many other prestigious individual awards such as the Asian Golden Ball, Best Player of the 2019-20 season of Tottenham, Best Player of Korea, Best Goal of 2020 (FIFA puskas), "Best Player of Asia" of Titan Sports magazine...
Currently, Son Heung-min is still the top striker of the "Rooster" in London. He and Harry Kane are an indispensable piece in coach Jose Mourinho's tactical diagram. The Portuguese coach even intended to learn Korean to facilitate his communication with Son. If he maintains his form, it will be natural for Son Heung-min to become an Asian monument.
