Man City officially regained the top spot in the Premier League table for the first time since August 2025 after a minimal victory over Burnley. Coach Pep Guardiola's team has the same 70 points and +37 goal difference as Arsenal but is ranked above thanks to scoring more goals (66 compared to 63).
Right from the first minutes, The Citizens imposed the game with breathtaking pressure. They only took 5 minutes to open the score when Jeremy Doku assisted Erling Haaland to break down and finish coldly to defeat Martin Dubravka.
The early goal helped the away team continue to completely control the game with the goal not only of winning 3 points but also improving goal difference. However, goalkeeper Dubravka had an excellent match day when he continuously saved shots from Nico O'Reilly, Bernardo Silva and Rayan Cherki, helping Burnley avoid a bigger defeat.
The home team also had times of rising up to put pressure, but Zian Flemming's inaccuracy and Abdukodir Khusanov's fierce defense prevented them from finding an equalizer.
Stepping into the second half, Guardiola clearly expressed dissatisfaction when his players missed many opportunities, the most regrettable of which was Haaland's shot hitting the post.
Although unable to increase the gap, Man City still maintained a 1-0 victory to gain an advantage in the championship race when the season enters a decisive stage.
In the opposite direction, Burnley officially relegated after a series of disastrous performances when they only won 1 in the last 25 matches in the Premier League.
