Returning to Santos to regain inspiration after an injury, Neymar is facing the most difficult period of his career.
In round 15 of the Brazilian First Division, Santos lost 1-2 to Inter Porto Alegre at home. The loss caused this team to drop to the relegation zone in 17th place, with only 14 points after 15 matches.
Not only was Neymar disappointed with the result, he also became the center of controversy when he took an uncontrolled action against a home team fan. In the final minutes of the match, he was harshly criticized by a fan from the stands and had a strong reaction. Teammates Joao Paulo had to rush in to stop the 32-year-old striker before everything was out of control.
Immediately after the match, Neymar posted a letter of interest on his personal Instagram to apologize to fans and explain why he could not restrain himself.
In times of anger, it is difficult to control emotions when being unjustly offended. I will never argue with fans when they criticize me for my expertise. But what they can't do is insult me personally, especially my family and friends," Neymar wrote.
The former PSG star also said that fans have said he and his father were " meritorious beaten up", and targeted his relatives with harsh words. This made Neymar unable to stay calm.
However, the Brazilian star affirmed that the incident will not change his commitment to his hometown team.
"I came to Santos to help the team to the best of my ability, both on and off the pitch. If one day the fans think I am no longer useful, I will be the first to leave.
But as long as I am here, I will give my all, I will run, I will fight if necessary to bring Santos back to his position," Neymar affirmed.
Santos have not made an official comment on the incident, but many fans expect things to calm down so that Neymar and the team can focus on improving their form and escape the relegation zone.
