That smile disappeared at the end of last season. In the press conference after a 0-1 defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final, the Portuguese captain looked no worse.
In the face of criticism from the media about his performance at Bilbao, Amorim could not hide his disappointment. He even declared his readiness to leave without demanding compensation if the board felt he was no longer suitable for the club.
However, the summer break with his family in Portugal has helped Amorim regain his spirit. When he started an important summer with the "Red Devils", he appeared relaxed, complacent and in an excited mood.
During the training session at Soldier Field, Amorim returned with a familiar image: cheerful, approachable, pointing at laughter with fitness coach Charlie Owen.

It was a bit of a disappointment that Man United took longer than expected to complete the Bryan Mbeumo deal. However, with the successful recruitment of Cameroon international Matheus Cunha, Amorim's request to add the ability to score to the squad has been met.
Last season, Man United scored only 44 goals in the Premier League - a figure that was too modest compared to expectations. Mbeumo and Cunha alone have contributed a total of 35 goals for Brentford and Wolves, showing the potential to significantly improve the "Red Devils" attack.
Amorim still wants to continue to strengthen the squad, mainly in two positions: center forward and center midfielder. However, the gentleman was cautious. Both the board and the coaching staff agree that: avoiding recruiting the wrong players is no less important than recruiting the right person.
"I think our club, at the moment, needs to be extremely careful with each contract," Amorim stressed at the first press conference of the summer.
Amorim understands that one of the biggest challenges of this transfer window is the liquidation of ineffective contracts. Notably Antony and Jadon Sancho - two players who cost Man United up to 160 million pounds in the past 4 years.
A year ago, Erik ten Hag was forced to accept a "war" with Sancho by including him in the tour list to maintain the transfer value. However, this move has put his reputation in question, especially after having a very tough stance.

In contrast to his predecessor, Amorim has had a clear stance and has been absolutely supported by the board. He identified Antony, Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia as not in the new season plan.
No one of them will be brought on the summer tour - a strong statement showing that Amorim's standards and orientation are a top priority at Old Trafford.
Amorim also focuses on the spirit and commitment in each contract. In private conversations with Cunha and Mbeumo, he was particularly impressed to know that both clubs had rejected Champions League clubs to sign for Man United.
For Amorim, it is evidence that they really want to wear the "Red Devils" shirt. And only such players have a place in his journey to rebuild.
