There is a big contrast in the messages of the two coaches in the press conference room at San Mames after Manchester United's loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final.
Right before Ange Postecoglou, who first walked in with the winning medal on his neck, and talked about the importance of adjusting the approach, Ruben Amorim sat in the same place and said back: "I would not change anything in the way I work.
If the board and the fans feel I'm not the right person, I will leave the next day without any talks about compensation, but I will not resign."
Amorim's way of working has brought him great success in Portugal. And of course, Man United know what they will get when appointing him. The former Sporting boss used a three-man defense in 188 consecutive matches in the domestic league and European Cup. 6 months later, that number was 225.
But Amorim's challenge remains uncomfortable as he has suffered his 17th defeat in 41 games as head coach of the Red Devils. This also highlights the dilemma that the club is facing.
The defeat to Spurs will see M.U miss a significant source of revenue from participating in the Champions League. But more importantly, it is a reminder, most of Amorim's players are not in the 3-4-2-1 system.
It is clear that the 40-year-old captain needs many new contracts to serve his system. However, where is the money? Man United's already tense financial situation has now gotten worse due to a disastrous season.
In addition, there is no guarantee that the changes will bring success. The club's decision-makers have seen enough in the past 6 months to believe that the investment will go hand in hand with the risk. The results have been really worse since Amorim was appointed.
Man United need a plan specifically designed for Amorim to bring in quality contracts to Old Trafford. But if the results are not as expected and Amorim is sacked, things will get worse.
How are expensive wingers beneficial for a potential successor who likes a four-man defence? Will the No. 10 players get involved when the coach is not Amorim?
Man United need to break the cycle of signing players for specific coaches and then break it and start over when needed. But worryingly, minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is currently at risk of maintaining that.
Of course, Amorim is not the only one to use a back three. But he is certainly one of the few coaches.
In all Premier League games this season, the four-man defence has been used for 77% of the time, while the three-man defence has only been used for 23% of the time.
The same difference can be seen in the European arena. Simone Inzaghi could still win the Champions League with a back three, but Inter Milan are one of only two teams to reach the knockout round this season that often use that tactic. The other team is Sporting - Amorim's former club.
Not that this system cannot work, but that Amorim's potential successors have actually used it very little. Man United seem to have a future commitment to the 40-year-old captain, but the reality is that the time to part ways will come, and it could be sooner than they expected.
The Red Devils will have their lowest Premier League tally since being relegated in 1973-74. They could even finish the campaign in 17th place - one level above the relegation zone. That scenario would happen if Tottenham beat Brighton while Man United cannot beat Aston Villa.
"There will be many questions surrounding Amorim's future. I would not be surprised if he was no longer the manager of Man United at the start of next season. Whether it was his choice or not.
