On the night of January 9 (Vietnam time), Everton club's homepage announced the dismissal of coach Sean Dyche along with 4 assistants: Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer. Head coach of the U18 team Leighton Baines and captain Seamus Coleman will temporarily lead the team.
The 0-1 loss to Bournemouth in round 20 of the Premier League marked Everton’s 5th consecutive winless match. In fact, in the last 10 matches, there were 8 matches in which the team failed to score a single goal. The defeat to Bournemouth became the “last straw” that led the board to fire the English coach.
Sean Dyche took over Everton in January 2023 with the task of helping the Merseyside team stay in the league. However, after 2 seasons in charge, he only helped the club finish in 15th place and is at risk of relegation this season.
Everton are currently 16th in the Premier League table with 17 points. After 19 matches, the team has only won 3 matches.
Previously on January 8, West Ham club also announced the dismissal of coach Julen Lopetegui, ending his short 8-month tenure since taking over the team from David Moyes.
Former England manager Graham Potter will be the new manager of the Hammers. His contract with West Ham will run until 2027. He is expected to be introduced to fans in the match against Aston Villa on January 11 in the third round of the FA Cup.
