The Vietnamese team defeated the Thai team right at Rajanmangala Stadium to win the 2024 ASEAN Cup, which is also the third championship of the "Golden Star Warriors" in this playground.
The first time was in 2008 (beaten Thailand in the final), in 2018 (beaten Malaysia in the final) when the tournament was still called AFF Cup, and now it is ASEAN Cup 2024.
In the list of 26 players participating in the ASEAN Cup 2024 by coach Kim Sang-sik, there are 5 players who participated in the AFF Cup 2018 with the Vietnamese team and won the championship, namely Nguyen Quang Hai, Nguyen Van Toan, Bui Tien Dung, Do Duy Manh and Nguyen Tien Linh. Thus, these 5 names are Vietnamese players who have won the Southeast Asian championship twice.
Among them, Nguyen Quang Hai, Bui Tien Dung, Do Duy Manh and Nguyen Tien Linh all had stable performance throughout the journey at the ASEAN Cup 2024. They have always been important factors that coach Kim Sang-sik often trusted in this year's tournament. It was the contributions of these names that helped bring the third championship to the Vietnamese team.
Nguyen Van Toan's case is quite unfortunate when he was injured in the last match of the group stage against Myanmar.
This injury also caused Van Toan to miss the rest of the tournament. Notably, at the AFF Cup 2018, Van Toan said goodbye to the tournament after the group stage due to injury, after which the Vietnamese team also won the championship.
