As of July 9, Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) has received official dispatches from 7 clubs including Hanoi Police, Hai Phong, Hanoi FC, Nam Dinh Steel Blue, Hong Linh Ha Tinh, The Cong Viettel and SHB Da Nang.
All agreed to the proposal to increase the number of foreign players allowed to play on the field at the same time to a maximum of 4 people, applicable to both the V.League and the National Cup for the 2025-2026 season.
This proposal is considered by clubs to be necessary to optimize the force, avoid wasting player resources, and at the same time increase competitiveness and professional quality for matches in the V.League.
Previously, as Lao Dong reported, Nam Dinh was one of the teams that sent an official request to VFF.
Official dispatch No. 31/CV-BDTXND-2025 clearly states: "We respectfully request the Vietnam Football Federation; Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company to consider allowing the maximum use of 4 foreign players to compete on the field at the same time of the match to optimize player resources, avoid waste; at the same time, improve quality and increase the appeal of the match".
Currently, according to the draft tournament regulations developed by VFF and VPF, each club is allowed to register a maximum of 4 foreign players but can only use a maximum of 3 players at the same time on the field.
For clubs participating in regional and continental tournaments, the number of registrations is up to 7, but they are only allowed to use 3 foreign players on the field at the same time.
After receiving the comments, VPF will send a report to the Vietnam Football Federation on July 9 to ask for instructions. The possibility of adjusting the tournament regulations is being carefully considered in the context of teams actively investing, aiming for higher goals in the new season.
