Thanh Hoa - Since the beginning of July, nearly 100 dead pigs have been thrown floating on the North Canal and related canals, causing serious environmental pollution.

On July 9, information from Song Chu One Member Co., Ltd. - the unit managing the Bai Thuong main canal system said that from July 1 to now, the company's officers and workers have discovered, salvaged and destroyed nearly 100 dead pigs floating on the Chinh canal, Bac canal, and Nam - Bai Thuong canal. It is likely that these pigs died due to the epidemic.

On the North Canal section through Thieu Toan and Thieu Trung communes alone, from July 3 to July 6, 11 pigs were discovered. In Dong Quang ward, during the same period, 30 dead pigs continued to be discovered. In the following days, the situation of dumping pigs continued. From July 7 to July 8, the canal management force recovered 18 more dead pigs. Worryingly, on the morning of July 9, 10 more pigs were discovered floating on the main and northern canals.

Mr. Khuong Ba Luan - General Director of Song Chu One Member Co., Ltd. - said that the Bac Canal and the Bai Thuong Canal system play a particularly important role, providing irrigation water for agricultural production, industry and domestic water for 11 communes and wards of Thanh Hoa province. The carcass of dead pigs thrown haphazardly into the canal bed not only causes serious pollution but also poses a very high risk of spreading the disease.

Immediately after the discovery, the company mobilized forces to coordinate with local authorities to salvage and destroy the pig carcasses in accordance with regulations, and at the same time directed branches to increase patrols and controls to promptly detect and prevent similar acts. However, up to now, the collective and individuals of violators have not been identified for strict handling.

Due to the lack of sanctioning functions, the company has issued a document requesting the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thanh Hoa province to direct local authorities to strengthen propaganda, raise awareness of water resource protection, and coordinate with competent authorities to investigate and clarify and handle violations.

"We hope that all levels and sectors will soon take strong measures to avoid repeating the situation of throwing dead cattle into canals, causing pollution and directly affecting people's lives," Mr. Khuong Ba Luan emphasized.

Previously, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province issued Document No. 6659/UBND-NNMT on resolving the situation of waste and dead animals on the Bac Bai Thuong canal. However, up to now, this situation is still complicated, requiring close coordination between the grassroots government and functional forces to promptly rectify and completely handle.
