According to Lao Dong, young striker Le Van Thuan will not be in the U22 Vietnam team participating in the U23 Southeast Asian Championship. Notably, he has just been honored as the Best Young Player of V.League 2024-2025.
Despite an impressive performance in recent training sessions, the striker from Dong A Thanh Hoa club will miss the upcoming regional tournament.
Van Thuan's departure from U22 Vietnam was surprising because of the stable performance he has shown in recent times. In a friendly match with the national team in June, the player born in 2006 scored against his seniors. Recently, he continued to score in the 5-0 victory of U22 Vietnam over Taiwan (China).
In the V.League, Le Van Thuan played 16 matches, scored 4 goals and had 2 assists. His achievements helped him win a noble individual title at the V.League Awards.
Regarding the training process of U22 Vietnam, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team have just completed two friendly matches with U22 Taiwan (China).
In the match on July 2, U22 Vietnam won the island 5-0 with goals from Phi Hoang, Van Truong, Quoc Viet, Viktor Le and Van Thuan. The second match took place a few days later, witnessing a more dramatic score chase, but U22 Vietnam still won 2-1 thanks to goals from Van Khang and Quoc Viet.
According to the plan, the U22 Vietnam team is practicing domestically until July 14. After that, the whole team will move to Indonesia to enter the campaign to defend the U23 Southeast Asian Championship.
In the group stage, Vietnam will face Laos on July 19 and Cambodia on July 22.
