Sharing with the press before the Vietnam national team's training session on the afternoon of May 30, Cong Phuong could not hide his emotions when returning after nearly 18 months of absence.
My first impression is the honor. Not only me but any player when called up to the national team feels like that. Football is my job, so I always have to try, prove myself and show my best to contribute to the team," Cong Phuong expressed.
In this gathering, although he has just focused on the team, Cong Phuong showed seriousness and readiness to contribute. He said that all the players are racing to show themselves in front of the coaching staff.
He said: "Not only me, all the players are trying to catch up and perform at their best in the eyes of the coaching staff. My teammates and I are trying our best. Everyone is eager to play. If given the opportunity, I will try to perform well, for the responsibility and for the common goal of the team".
The Vietnam team officially gathered on May 29 and had its first training session this afternoon (May 30). However, some players from the Hanoi Police and Binh Duong clubs have not been able to participate due to the make-up match schedule in the V.League, which is expected to gather on May 31.
Emphasizing the importance of the upcoming match against Malaysia, Cong Phuong said that he and the whole team are determined to aim for a favorable result.
This is a very important match. If we have good results, our chances of going through will be wider. The whole team will prepare carefully to achieve the best score. I have played well in matches against Malaysia. This time too, if I get to play, I will do my best to contribute to helping the team get positive results," Cong Phuong emphasized.
The match between Vietnam and Malaysia in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers will take place on June 10.
