Defender Ho Tan Tai was injured in the second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2024 semi-final between Vietnam and Thailand at Viet Tri Stadium on December 29, 2024. He received the ball and was injured without colliding with anyone.
After the match, the player was taken for a check-up. The doctor diagnosed that the Binh Duong defender only had a ligament contusion, not a tear, and did not require surgery. This injury will take 6-8 weeks to fully recover.
However, today (January 13), Ho Tan Tai had his knee scanned and re-examined. This time, the doctors said that the male player had a partial tear of the ligament in his right knee. He needs surgery and it will take about 9 months to return to the field.
Tan Tai is expected to undergo surgery on the morning of January 14. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) wants the defender to undergo surgery at a hospital in Hanoi, where striker Nguyen Xuan Son is currently being treated and recovering. Meanwhile, Binh Duong Club has requested that Tan Tai undergo surgery in Ho Chi Minh City to facilitate his recovery from the injury.
It is known that VFF and the team will discuss and soon come to a final decision so that Tan Tai can receive timely treatment.
Ho Tan Tai's long-term absence from competition is bad news for Binh Duong club as well as coach Kim Sang-sik. Because the Vietnamese team will have to compete in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers next March. Mr. Kim Sang-sik will lose an experienced option on the right wing.
