The Vietnam women's team will face Maldives in the opening match of Group E of the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship qualifiers.
This is the first official match of coach Mai Duc Chung and his team since the second qualifying round of the 2024 Olympics in November 2023.
The Vietnamese women's team has gathered since the beginning of May in Hanoi, then had a 10-day training trip in Japan to improve their expertise and fitness. Domestic and international friendly matches have helped the players improve their techniques and tactics.
According to statistics, the Vietnam women's team has faced Maldives 3 times with a perfect record, scoring 35 goals and conceding none. The last time the two teams met was in 2021 in the opening match of Group B of the 2022 Asian qualifiers, with a resounding victory of 16-0.
This shows that Maldives is not a worthy opponent for the Vietnam women's team. Therefore, Huynh Nhu and her teammates are expected to continue to win big against this team in the upcoming match.
Before the opening match, coach Mai Duc Chung said: "The Vietnam women's team aims to top Group E in the qualifying round. We will show great determination right from the opening match against Maldives.
For the Vietnam, UAE, Maldives and Guam women's teams, they are all opponents that we respect. They have all made remarkable progress. The Vietnam women's team needs to be cautious and make a lot of effort".
The match between the Vietnam women's team and Maldives takes place at 19:00 today (June 29) and will be broadcast live on FPT Play.
