U20 Vietnam entered the 2027 AFC U20 Championship qualifiers with relatively comprehensive preparation after a training trip in Japan. In about 2 weeks, the team maintained training intensity and friendly matches with 5 opponents from leading universities, winning 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses.
Through the training process, coach Yutaka Ikeuchi has more basis to assess each position, and at the same time identify suitable personnel options before entering the official tournament. Playing with quality "sparring partners" also helps U20 Vietnam adjust the limitations in their playing style.
The first challenge for the Vietnamese youth team is U20 DPRK. This is an opponent with a disciplined playing style, focusing on speed, strength and tackling ability. Regularly putting pressure right from the midfield area may make it difficult for U20 Vietnam to deploy the ball.
After the opening match, U20 Vietnam successively met U20 Palestine and U20 Iran. Among them, U20 Iran belongs to the No. 1 seed group and is considered one of the strong teams in Asian youth football.
With the participation of 3 different quality opponents, Group C brings continuous tests for coach Yutaka Ikeuchi and his team. Home field advantage and preparation in Japan will be the basis for U20 Vietnam to aim for the right to participate in the 2027 AFC U20 Championship finals.
The match between U20 Vietnam vs U20 DPRK takes place at 7:00 PM today (August 31).
