Notably, Thai sports expect to win 4 gold medals in sepak takraw and 3 gold medals in teqball, accounting for half of the total set gold medals. The rest is allocated to kurash, jiu-jitsu, taekwondo, golf, athletics, sailing and esports, each with 1 gold medal.
Among these, sepak takraw is an event that Vietnam has the ability to create fair competition with Thailand. At the King's Cup 2026, Vietnam has won 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal.
The Vietnamese women's team won the women's doubles event for the first time. Meanwhile, in the women's 4-a-side team event, Vietnam only lost to Thailand in the final. These results show that Vietnam has a basis to aim for medals at ASIAD, although Thailand is still the top opponent.
In teqball, Thailand aims to win all 3 gold medals in the women's doubles, men's doubles and mixed doubles events. Thai athletes are highly appreciated in Asia, besides Iraq and South Korea. Vietnam also participates in this sport but has lower gold medal competition ability.
Taekwondo is also one of Thailand's important sports when setting a goal of 1 gold medal. In addition, with golf, athletics, sailing, kurash and jiu-jitsu and esport, Thailand also has high expectations.
