On the evening of December 17, the Vietnam women's team entered the final match of the 33rd SEA Games women's football with the Philippines women's team. Coach Mai Duc Chung's team is expected to defeat their opponent right in Thailand to win the overall gold medal.
In fact, the Vietnamese women's team entered the match quite confidently and could have played well against the Philippines women's team. The most notable situation was created in the 29th minute when the Vietnam women's team kicked the ball into the opponent's net.
From Van Su's cross, Bich Thuy moved intelligently and had a powerful header that defeated the Philippine goalkeeper. However, the linesman immediately raised the flag of of offside and Bich Thuy's goal was confusingly denied.

Following through slow-motion footage, it is clear that Bich Thuy stood above the 2 defenders of the Philippine women's team before rushing down to head the ball close to the goal from Van Su's pass. However, the assistant referee still raised the flag of of offside.
"The referee's assistant was too poor in this situation when he blew the whistle on Bich Thuy so that the Vietnam women's team could clearly lose the goal. I also could not understand from such a good viewing angle that the linesman could raise the flag to report of offside, because Bich Thuy was clearly above the 2 defenders of the Philippine women's team before moving the ball at Van Su's feet to head into the opponent's net.
It is a pity for the Vietnamese women's team that there is no VAR technology at the 33rd SEA Games, if not completely complete, it is a valid goal for coach Mai Duc Chung's team," a former FIFA referee of V.League shared.
In this situation, we cannot blame the referee because the tournament does not have VAR, so the referees decision depends on the remaining assistants on the field in the offside reporting situations.
I once again affirm that the assistant referee made a mistake in this situation when taking an offside error against Bich Thuy, the former FIFA referee added.
