VFF finalizes to add more teams to V.League but still waiting for Quang Nam

MINH PHONG |

VFF has finalized a plan to add teams to V.League 2025-2026, while Quang Nam was unexpectedly proposed by a sponsor to pour 150 billion VND to save the risk.

On the afternoon of July 24, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) issued Notice No. 1585/TB-LDBDVN that the Executive Committee had agreed to choose the option of adding teams to ensure the structure of professional and non-professional tournaments in the 2025-2026 season.

Previously, according to the content of the submission No. 290/Ptr-BTTK dated July 22 of the VFF General Secretariat, two options were proposed for comments: (1) Keep 13 teams in the V.League and most likely only have 1 place to be relegated; (2) Add 1 more team from the First Division to maintain 14 teams, as in the old structure.

After synthesizing the voting results, option 2 was approved by the VFF Executive Committee.

With this decision, a team from the 2024-2025 First Division will be selected to compete in the 2025-2026 V.League. Among the teams that can be selected, Binh Phuoc is currently the most promising candidate with the runner-up position.

Meanwhile, PVF-CAND (3rd place in the First Division) and Binh Dinh (relegated V.League team) are also likely, but the participation of these two teams is still uncertain due to many financial and organizational factors.

Notably, Quang Nam club - the team facing the risk of withdrawing from V.League due to financial difficulties has not yet officially sent a document to VFF and VPF confirming the withdrawal of the tournament. This team has only proposed a number of transfer options to the People's Committee of Da Nang City.

However, according to Lao Dong, on the afternoon of July 24, a business suddenly opened up a desire to sponsor more than 150 billion VND to maintain the operations of Quang Nam club.

Therefore, the final plan is expected to be announced by this enterprise on July 25, opening up the possibility of "rescuing" the team at the last minute and helping them continue to participate in the V.League next season.
