Perilla is a plant in the mint family, commonly used in Asian cuisine and traditional medicine. According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), perilla leaves contain large amounts of polyphenols, flavonoids (such as luteoline, apigenin), Rosmarinic acid, plant omega-3s (ALA) and vitamin E - all of which have strong antioxidant properties.
Perilla extract has the ability to inhibit enzymes that cause inflammation, while reducing oxidative damage in human skin cells. As a result, perilla helps slow down the aging process, reduce inflammatory acne and support bright and healthy skin from within.
Detoxify and cool the body
Perilla is warm but has the effect of cooling blood, increasing sweating and supporting the liver in detoxifying.
The active ingredient perillaldehyde in perilla has the ability to reduce allergies and increase the ability to detoxify the liver. Perilla extract helps improve liver enzymes and reduce oxidative stress in the liver.
Especially in the summer, when the detoxification function through sweat and liver is active, a glass of perilla water not only helps cool down but also helps the body to be gentle, the skin has less redness and reduces the risk of heatstroke.
Recipes for perilla water to beautify the skin and purify the body:
Ingredients:
1 handful of fresh perilla leaves (about 100g)
1.5 liters of filtered water
Fresh slices of ginger (optional - help increase detoxification efficiency)
1 tablespoon honey (optional - increase the easier to drink flavor)
A few drops of lemon juice (optional - helps alkalimize the body)
How to do:
Wash the perilla leaves, soak in diluted salt water to remove bacteria and pesticides.
Boil 1.5 liters of water, add perilla leaves and ginger and simmer for 57 minutes until the water turns dark purple.
Turn off the heat, let it cool and then filter out the residue. You can add honey and lemon after the water has cooled to retain the vitamins.
Store in the refrigerator and use throughout the day. You should drink it 30 minutes before meals or between meals for best cleansing results.
Notes when using perilla water:
Although perilla has many benefits, according to the European Association of Pharmaceutical and Pharmaceutical Pharmacy, overdose (over 200g/day of fresh leaves) can cause a slight increase in blood pressure due to warming, or cause digestive disorders in people with weak stomachs.
People with allergic reactions to mint or taking anticoagulants should also consult a doctor before regularly using perilla water.
