The Korean General Director expressed his condolences to the workers and their families who were affected by the blast. At the same time, he said that the Company's Board of Directors is closely coordinating with hospitals and workers' families to care for the treatment and recovery of the victims.
According to the story of Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Head of the shift at the Machine Room, working at the scene of the explosion, at about 9:30 am on May 21, while workers were operating the machine at the material cover, a technical incident occurred when an abnormal high oxygen alert, exceeding the permissible threshold and could not operate automatically.
Just 30 seconds after the workers opened the manual valve, pumping oxygen into the machine to reduce oxygen concentration to a safe level, a loud explosion rang out, causing part of the factory's concrete wall to collapse, causing many workers to be thrown away, severely burned and unconscious, and temporarily deaf.
The explosion shook the entire factory area, many equipment and items were thrown away, the power system was completely cut off and the fire fighting system automatically released water throughout the factory. A total of 12 workers were injured and were quickly taken by the Company to Quang Nam Central General Hospital for emergency treatment.
As of the morning of May 23, one person had burns of 6070% of his body area, had not yet recovered from the critical condition and had been transferred to Hanoi for intensive treatment; 3 others were being treated for injuries and burns, 8 people had been discharged from the hospital.

Warning about labor safety
SGI Vina is a large-scale FDI enterprise in Quang Nam, with a total investment of more than VND 2,680 billion, operating since 2022 and is considered one of the large-scale industrial projects applying modern technology. The factory currently has about 300 workers.
However, the recent explosion is a serious warning about ensuring labor safety in high-tech industrial plants. Investing in modern equipment is necessary, but at the same time, there must be a safe operating system, strict risk control and training of accident prevention skills for workers.
In the letter to the workers, the General Director of SGI Vina also frankly accepted the accident as a warning and pledged to work with the parent company in Korea, equipment suppliers and authorities in Quang Nam to thoroughly investigate the cause and review the entire operating process to prevent any similar risks from recurring.
