Understanding indoor mold
Dr. Manisha Arora - senior consultant at Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute (India) - said that mold can have a serious impact on health, especially for people with weak immune systems, allergies or respiratory problems.
During the days of prolonged rain, the problem of mold in the house became common, not only damaging property but also negatively affecting health.
Mushrooms can enter through windows, doors, clothes, shoes or even pets. They are often made of flour, cotton and have a mold smell, but many people often ignore their potential harm.
Dr. Arora says mold occurs in moist areas of the home, especially places with temperatures ranging from 60-80°C, such as bathrooms, kitchens, and around air conditioners and air conditioners. Some types of mushrooms can grow behind wallpaper. These mushrooms can produce toxins that are long-term harmful to health.
Popular house mushrooms
Sharma, senior consultant at Fortis Vasant Kunj Hospital (India), said that fungus can grow anywhere with moisture, from the bathroom, kitchen to areas with little ventilation.
Some popular types of household mold include Aspergillus, Alternaria, Acremonium, Aureobasidium, Chaetomium, Cladosporium, Fusarium, Mucor, Penicillium, Stachybotrys, Trichoderma and Ulocladium... Of which, Acremonium is the most common type of mold and can affect human health such as Candida, Aspergillus and Mucor.
Health effects of mushrooms
Dr. Arora explains that some people may experience symptoms such as cough, cold, and sneezing after exposure to mold. Mushrooms can also aggravate respiratory diseases such as asthma. People with weak immune systems may have sore throats or other respiratory problems.
Dr. Sharma said that mold can cause itching, dandruff, redness, allergic reactions and respiratory problems, especially for patients with weakened immune systems. In severe cases, housewives can cause invasive infections, even leading to death.
Preventing mold in the home
To prevent mold, maintaining home hygiene is very important. Dr. Arora recommends using safe and effective chemical solutions to prevent mold growth. In addition, maintaining good physical health, a strong immune system and stable blood sugar levels also help reduce the risk of being affected by fungi.
When the house is affected by fungi, be careful when cleaning, always wear gloves and avoid direct contact with fungi. Areas such as storage rooms or rooms that are rarely used need to be thoroughly cleaned. Arora also warns against ignoring any rashes on the skin after exposure to fungus.
In particular, it is necessary to pay attention to taking care of children and sick people in the home, because they are at risk of being strongly affected by mold.
