Launch of the Tour Guide Union
On November 15, the Da Nang City Labor Federation launched the Tourist Guides Union with 111 members. This is the result of nearly 2 months of meetings, discussions, and direct advocacy with the Da Nang Tourist Guides Association and tour guides.
During this process, the Da Nang City Labor Federation organized 2 propaganda sessions for more than 400 tour guides. Through many forms of persuasion, mobilization, direct propaganda for tour guides and the effective support of the Da Nang Tour Guide Association, initially 111 workers were mobilized to write applications to join the Union. At the same time, 5 prestigious and trusted tour guides were mobilized to participate in the Executive Committee of the grassroots Union. On this occasion, the Standing Committee of the City Labor Federation supported 5 million VND in initial funding for the Union to facilitate the organization of activities; presented 20 gifts to encourage and support 20 union members to continue to stick with and contribute to their profession.
Mr. Le Van Dai - Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City Labor Federation - said: The whole city of Da Nang has more than 300,000 workers working in the informal sector, of which the tour guide force is more than 3,000 people.
Although in Da Nang, tour guide is a profession with a fairly high income. However, there are still many tour guides with unstable incomes and who do not fully enjoy social security and welfare regimes. They have not been informed and disseminated many policies and guidelines of the Party, laws of the State, and specific policies of the city, especially in the field of tourism in particular and services in general. Therefore, the Trade Union organization needs to gather, manage, support, help, care for and represent and protect their brothers and sisters in trade union organizations.
There are more than 2,000 informal union members.
The Tour Guides Grassroots Union with 111 members is the third informal union established by the Da Nang City Labor Federation, launched in 2024. Bringing the total number of union members in this sector in Da Nang to more than 2,000 members, up to this point.
Previously, the Da Nang City Labor Federation established and launched the Independent Preschool Classes Union in 7 districts; established and launched the Grab Technology Drivers Union in Da Nang City.
This result is a bright spot, very welcome, demonstrating the determination and outstanding efforts of the Da Nang City Trade Union, especially in the general context - a number of economic sectors are facing difficulties. And the specific context is that many enterprises are reducing the scale of production and business, at the same time reducing labor, workers are unemployed... causing the target of developing union members to be affected.
Mr. Le Van Dai - Vice President of Da Nang City Labor Federation - said: In late 2024 and early 2025, Da Nang City Labor Federation will continue to expand union membership in the informal sector in areas with great potential such as pharmacists at drugstores and small traders in traditional markets.
Along with the establishment of new grassroots unions and the development of new union members, the Standing Committee of the Da Nang City Labor Federation will also have specific policies and regimes to care for and protect the rights of these subjects, with the goal of creating a difference in rights when they are not yet union members and when they become union members.
"When the Unions are born, we will definitely have a way to take care of and nurture them to help them grow quickly and meet their mission requirements, not just give birth and leave them there, letting them grow on their own" - Mr. Le Van Dai affirmed at the launching ceremony of the Tour Guide Union.
