On the afternoon of June 4, on the sidelines of the 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress, a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper exchanged views with Mr. Nguyen Phu Hoang - Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Provincial Party Committee Member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial Labor Federation on proposals to improve the effectiveness of trade union activities in the 2026 - 2031 term.

Sir, what are the expectations of the delegation of the Lam Dong Provincial Trade Union at the 14th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union?
- Mr. Nguyen Phu Hoang: The delegation of Lam Dong Provincial Trade Union includes 12 delegates, representing more than 94,000 union members and workers in the province, attending the congress with many expectations for new policies and breakthrough orientations to improve the effectiveness of trade union activities and better care for the material and spiritual lives of workers in the new context.
Lam Dong is currently the locality with the largest area in the country, with a long area. What solutions has the Provincial Trade Union implemented to care for union members and workers in a large area?
- Mr. Nguyen Phu Hoang: Currently, the Lam Dong Provincial Trade Union manages 965 grassroots trade unions and unions with more than 94,000 union members.
After implementing the arrangement of administrative units, the province's area stretches from the highlands and midlands to the sea and islands. Production conditions, jobs and lives of workers between regions are still very different.
Faced with that reality, trade unions at all levels in the province have proactively innovated operating methods, strongly focusing on grassroots levels. One of the key tasks is to establish more commune and ward trade unions to organize trade unions present in 124 communes, wards, and special zones throughout the province.
Covering the area helps trade union organizations promptly grasp the thoughts and aspirations of union members and workers; coordinate with businesses to care for the welfare and protect the legitimate rights of workers.
In addition, the trade union also strengthens the mobilization of businesses, organizations, and individuals to accompany in support programs and care for union members in difficult circumstances.

According to you, with the specific characteristics of the locality, what proposals do you have for the trade union organization to improve the effectiveness of caring for union members and workers?
Mr. Nguyen Phu Hoang: What we are particularly concerned about is that the trade union organization will strengthen support policies for union members and workers in remote and isolated areas, ethnic minority areas, border areas, sea and island areas. There needs to be more support programs for housing, health care, union member welfare, and social security to care for workers working in these areas.
Along with that, it is necessary to promote digital transformation in trade union activities, apply information technology to union member management, deploy online trade union services, and strengthen connections with workers in remote areas. This is an important solution to help union members access information, policies and support programs of the trade union organization faster.
